Immersion Film
Before…
During this course, your screenwriting skills will take an unprecedented leap.
I will give you proof of that. We are going to do a Before & After.
Before you learn anything in this course, I want you to transcribe a very short scene from The Untouchables into screenplay format.
The scene runs for 1min22, and the players are Malone (Sean Connery), Ness (Kevin Costner), and Stone (Andy Garcia).
To make things a little easier, you will have access to the dialogue list (from the Step Materials above).
Now, grab a timer or stopwatch, because I want you to record how long it takes you to transcribe it.
In 50 days from today we are going to do the exact same exercise. We’ll see how you rate, both in terms of writing standard and speed.
Ready?
Then start your timer, play the video above, and transcribe it into screenplay format.
Afterwards, I will be back with you. (scroll past the photo below the dialogue transcript).
Dialogue Transcript [also available as a download from the Step Materials above]
At ease! Stone! Out here. This kid's a prodigy. Why do you want to join the force? To protect the property and... Oh, please, don't waste my time with that bullshit. Where are you from, Stone? From the Southside. Stone? George Stone, that's your name? What's your real name? That is my real name. Nah! What was it before you changed it? Giuseppe Petri. Geez, l knew it! That's all you need, one thieving wop on the team! What's that you said? l said that you're a lyin' member of a no-good race. That's much better than you, you stinkin' lrish pig. Oh, l like him. Yeah, l like him, too. You just joined the Treasury Department, son. Yeah, okay.
Done?
Not easy, right?!
Wrong. Dead easy!
In 50 days from now, you’ll find out exactly how easy…
You want to know what is going to happen in those 50 days? Have a look at the schedule in the next step.
